With the amazing Ronnie Bennett on lead vocals, The Ronettes became the leading exponents of Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound. The New York group formed in 1959. The trio consisted of Ronnie, sister Estelle and cousin Nedra Talley.
When they came to the attention of producer / songwriter Spector, The Ronettes signed to his Philles label. Debut single "Be My Baby" featured Ronnie's innocent seductive vocal. The 1963 disc is still lauded for its pop perfection. The girl group also released "Baby I Love You", "Walking In The Rain" and "You Baby".
Spector married Ronnie in 1968. Their stormy marriage ended 5 years later. She sued her ex-husband for non-payment of royalties. Ronnie Spector later launched a solo career.
