The protagonist in the song "In Dreams" is in love. Each night he goes to bed and surrenders to sleep. His dreams are occupied by images of him and the object of his affection.
The song detours to the sad reality that the couple are only together in his dreams. As he awakes, he realizes that the woman he loves is gone.
Roy Orbison penned the song, releasing it as a single in 1963. It served as the title track of the parent album, also issued that year.
