PETULA CLARK
Born in 1932, English performer Petula Clark's career began at a young age. She entertained British troops and audiences at home during World War II. Later, Clark ventured into movies. As an adult, many of her singles failed to chart. "Sailor" changed that situation in 1961, topping the UK Chart.
The British Invasion re-launched her career and exposed her to an American audience. In 1964, "Downtown" reached #1 in the U.S.A. "My Love" did the same the following year. Clark's 2nd British #1 was "This Is My Song" in 1967. Her other hits of the decade include "Colour My World", "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" and "Don't Sleep In The Subway".
In the ensuing decades, Clark has worked on the stage ("Blood Brothers" among other productions) and screen (including 'Finian's Rainbow'). She still tours the world at the age of 84.
