BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG…
These songs are well known
but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
Angel Of The Morning
Juice Newton recorded the most successful version to date of the Chip Taylor song "Angel Of The Morning". In 1981, her single reached #4 Pop and #1 Adult Contemporary in America. There had been a few earlier recordings of the same song prior to Newton's interpretation. The original was issued in 1967 by Evie Sands (see below). Merrilee Rush (pictured left) was the 1st to chart with the song, her version peaking at #7 the following year.
